Government to abolish unfair dismissal employment laws, suggested in a leaked report
A leaked report commissioned by David Cameron suggests that British workers should be banned from claiming unfair dismissal so that employers can find more capable replacements. It’s believed the current law makes it difficult to prove that someone deserves to be dismissed and comes with lengthy and complex processes for doing so.
The author of this controversial report, Adrian Beecroft, a venture capitalist, recommends a replacement regulation, called Compensated No Fault Dismissal. This would allow employers to sack unproductive staff with basic redundancy pay and notice. Mr Beecroft highlighted in this report that the downside is that employers could fire staff because they did not like them.
The government recognizes that dramatic measures are required to promote growth and overcome this economic crisis hence this report being commissioned. The recommendation is particularly aimed at helping small and medium sized businesses who have limited human resource departments and expertise in dealing with complex employment tribunals.
Mr Beecroft believes changes in the law would make it easier for firms to sack under-performing staff which will boost employment, rather than increase unemployment and will make our businesses more competitive.
The analysis from this report was not due to be published yet but it is expected to be officially published later this year.
