Energy inefficiency costing UK small businesses £7.7bn a year

Research published by energy company E.ON. reports UK small businesses are losing £7.7bn a year by failing to install simple energy efficiency measures. E.ON. found only a fifth of the 1,167 small and medium sized businesses surveyed have energy efficient equipment at their workplace and they are potentially missing out on savings of up to £2,000 per year.

From the respondents 15 per cent had a smart meter installed, but almost nine out of 10 did not have lighting timers or motion sensors, eight out of 10 did not have an energy monitor installed, and 13 per cent admitted to leaving the window open when the air conditioning or heating was running.

Interestingly the survey suggests 90% of the respondents thought that their colleague’s attitudes to energy were irresponsible and 84% said that their company approach to being environmentally friendly affects their workplace happiness.

With the potential to save your business money and make your workforce happier it would be would seem unwise to ignore this research and review your own workplace.
